Volunteer Information
Community engagement and participation in the educational process is of vital importance to the education process. We are very fortunate to be in a community so supportive of our school. Not only does your volunteerism support our teachers and their efforts, it also shows students the value we set, as a community, on the work being done here in the building.
Please take a few moments to review our guidelines for classroom volunteers. Thank you for giving your time to support us here at Boylston Elementary School.
Volunteer Sign-In Policy
All volunteers must sign in and out in the visitor book located in the school office. Please also take a visitor sticker so that staff and students know that you have signed in.
Guidelines for Classroom Volunteers
· A volunteer works under the direction and supervision of a teacher or staff member who has requested such assistance. Communication between a volunteer and a staff member should be arranged at a mutually convenient time.
· Volunteers will not divulge confidential information to which they may have access. Children's behavior, needs, and interactions must not be discussed outside of school. Problems or concerns should be brought to the attention of the staff person in charge and/or the principal.
· Volunteers are required to have an active CORI form on file. Please stop by the office with your driver’s license to fill out a form. CORIs are good for three years.
· Volunteers should make every effort to honor their commitments and to be punctual. The teacher you are helping may have taken a great deal of time to develop activities for you and the children. The staff member should be notified if commitments cannot be carried out. (When appropriate, the volunteer may find a substitute or reschedule the activity. If possible, check with the teacher about the plausibility of the option.)
· Total responsibility for disciplining students rests with professional staff. Volunteers having difficulties with any student shall immediately seek assistance from the teacher or staff member.
· Unannounced visits to classrooms are not allowed.
· Volunteers need to report to their assigned area ONLY.
· Please make yourself aware of the classroom expectations.
